Edgecomb Neighbor,

Were you shocked when you opened last year’s property tax bill? We were, too! The Edgecomb Select Board asked us to form a Citizens’ Tax Group to investigate ways to lower our 2025 taxes. We have reviewed years of Edgecomb’s budgets and audits and have uncovered opportunities for improvement in many areas of Town spending.

(Data pulled from the Town of Edgecomb, Maine State, and school)

The Eddy School’s budget has increased by more than $108,000 every year since 2020

a rate that significantly exceeds the high rate of U.S. inflation during the same period

Edgecomb Eddy School is not competing well on Maine standardized academic tests

Compared to neighboring public elementary schools, it ranks 2nd lowest in English, 3rd lowest in Math, and the lowest in Science.

The school’s resident student enrollment has been steadily declining

Nonresident students were brought in to increase enrollment, but the tuition collected for those students falls below the cost to Edgecomb taxpayers by as much as $400,000 annually.

The Edgecomb Fire Department’s budget has also increased faster than the rate of inflation
